HP unveiled a new series of Z workstations and AI systems at HP Imagine 2026, broadening its high-performance computing portfolio for engineers, architects, creative designers, AI developers, and other professional users with intensive local computing requirements. The updates span desktop and mobile workstations, GPU-sharing utilities, and new platforms built to support hybrid AI infrastructure spanning cloud and edge environments.
The announcement features an enhanced HP Z8 Fury G6i desktop workstation, all-new ZBook mobile models, improvements to HP Z Boost, and expanded emphasis on the ZGX Nano and ZGX Fury within HP’s Advanced Compute Solutions lineup. These new releases are focused on giving enterprises greater flexibility over where resource-heavy workloads run, while balancing performance, security, manageability, and total cost of ownership.
Desktop and Mobile Systems Expand the Core Workstation Portfolio
At the flagship end of its desktop range, the HP Z8 Fury G6i is engineered for AI development, simulation, and visual effects workloads, supporting up to four NVIDIA RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell Max-Q Workstation Edition GPUs alongside next-generation Intel workstation processors. The system also serves as a primary host platform for HP Z Boost, allowing GPU resources to be shared across multiple users.
HP also introduced the HP Max Side Panel for the Z8 Fury and Z4 workstations, a chassis extension that increases internal space by 15%. This accessory supports tool-free installation of larger graphics cards while preserving thermal efficiency and ease of servicing.
On the mobile front, refreshed versions of the HP ZBook X G2i, HP ZBook 8 G2i, and ZBook 8 G2a bring workstation-grade performance to users working remotely or away from their desks. These systems offer both AMD and Intel processor options, integrated or discrete graphics, expandable memory, and slimmer designs aimed at improving battery life while supporting demanding professional applications.
HP positions the ZBook X as its most powerful 16-inch mainstream mobile workstation, equipped with 3000-series graphics and up to 128GB of RAM. This hardware is built to reduce rendering delays and accelerate photorealistic rendering and real-time project reviews for architects, engineers, and designers. In an Autodesk Inventor benchmark, the ZBook 8 G2i delivered up to 3.3 times faster rendering for mobile engineering workflows. The ZBook 8 series also includes a new GaN power adapter that is up to 40% smaller and 50% lighter than previous generations.
Z Boost Adds Shared GPU Power for AI and Rendering Workflows
HP Z Boost, initially launched for AI workloads, is now being extended to support rendering pipelines. The platform transforms workstations into shared, on-demand GPU resources, letting users access extra graphics horsepower without transferring data off local systems. According to HP, customers using Z Boost for AI have run hundreds of additional training sessions through shared GPU access. Early rendering deployments also showed up to 5.7 times faster performance in applications such as Catia and Siemens NX. In this setup, HP ZBook mobile devices act as clients, while desktop Z-series machines provide the host GPU resources.
Many of the new systems will launch on HP.com in the coming months. The HP ZBook 8 G2i and G2a, HP Z4 G6i Desktop, and HP Z8 Fury G6i are expected to be available starting in April, while the HP ZBook X G2i is scheduled for release in Spring 2026. Official pricing has not yet been disclosed.
ZGX Fury Extends HP’s Push Into Local AI Infrastructure
HP also revealed the ZGX Fury, a deskside AI system designed to deliver data-center-class AI development and inference in on-premises environments. The platform targets organizations that want production-grade compute outside the public cloud, as AI inference increasingly shifts closer to data sources due to latency, privacy, cost, and data gravity considerations. While cloud infrastructure remains important for large-scale AI, the rise of agentic AI has driven higher token usage and compute demands, resulting in increased costs and latency for many real-world workloads.
Powered by the NVIDIA GB300 Grace Blackwell Ultra Desktop Superchip and 748GB of coherent memory, the ZGX Fury supports trillion-parameter inference and fine-tuning for models exceeding 100 billion parameters. The system is built to support large teams without the specialized infrastructure, cooling, and facility requirements typical of traditional data center deployments. It also enables teams to move seamlessly from development to production on a single machine, providing a unified platform for building, validating, and deploying AI workloads locally with greater direct control over data and processes.
The full software stack includes the HP ZGX Toolkit, a free, open-source suite of AI tools preconfigured for fast deployment with no licensing costs, along with hardware-level security, isolated pipelines, and sovereign deployment options for sensitive data. The system also supports autonomous AI agents through NVIDIA OpenShell, an open-source runtime that manages agent behavior and inference routing while enabling isolated sandbox environments with strong privacy and security controls. HP is also collaborating on NVIDIA NemoClaw, an open-source framework for deploying always-on OpenClaw assistants with a single command as part of the NVIDIA Agent Toolkit, which integrates the OpenShell runtime with open models such as NVIDIA Nemotron.
